Kani Payments alternatives for US card issuers, BIN sponsors and program managers, 6 platforms compared

kani payments alternatives

The best Kani Payments alternative depends on what your card program has to prove. A UK or EU e-money issuer that needs CASS 15 safeguarding and scheme reporting is well served by Kani itself. A US card issuer, BIN sponsor bank or credit union card program reconciling Visa and Mastercard settlement against a core, FedACH and the Fed account fits a bank-side platform such as BankAutomation, which publishes plans from $1,200 a month. Payment companies with many processors should look at Simetrik or SmartStream.

What Kani Payments is

Kani is a reconciliation, reporting and compliance platform for payments companies, based in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. It sells to issuers, acquirers, BIN sponsors, payment processors, e-money institutions, challenger banks, program managers and neobanks. The product has five parts: Reconcile for automated matching, Report for transaction reporting, Analyse for business intelligence, QMR and GOC reports for Mastercard and Visa scheme submissions, and Safeguarding for the FCA's CASS 15 regime. It holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2.

In February 2025 Kani announced a multi-million pound Series A led by Maven Capital Partners. It said it had reconciled more than €24 billion in processed payments across five continents, grown its client base 70 percent in a year, and named Cardaq, Paysafe, Pluxee and Transact Payments as customers. The same announcement named the US as its next market. Kani does not publish prices, and its plans page lists products rather than tiers.

Why US card programs are seeing Kani now

A US expansion means US issuers and BIN sponsors meet Kani on shortlists, usually alongside whatever their processor or core vendor offers. The scheme reporting is a real strength: Mastercard's Quarterly Mastercard Report and Visa's Global Operating Certificate are submitted every quarter by every issuer, and pulling them from reconciled data rather than a spreadsheet saves days.

The fit question is the rest of the stack. Much of Kani's regulatory tooling is built around UK rules. A US BIN sponsor does not file CASS 15 safeguarding returns. It reconciles card settlement through FedACH or Fedwire, ties program balances to FBO accounts on its own core, handles Regulation E disputes against a clock (provisional credit within 10 business days, investigations up to 45 days, or 90 for new accounts, point of sale and foreign transactions), and shows examiners an aged queue of every open item.

Which Kani alternative fits which buyer

Start from the workload, not the vendor list. The same platform rarely wins every row. If you run a bank or credit union debit program rather than a fintech one, the debit card reconciliation software page walks through network settlement, interchange and Reg E disputes on the bank side.

Where Kani is strong

Give Kani credit where it earns it. It is one of the few reconciliation vendors built around card programs from the start rather than adapted to them, and having QMR and GOC reporting come out of the same reconciled data is a genuine time saver for any issuer. Its client list is made of program managers and payment firms, which means its templates already understand processor files. For a UK or EU e-money institution it may well be the obvious choice.

What a US card program needs that a UK platform may not

  • US rails as standard sources. Visa and Mastercard settlement reports, Nacha files by FedACH window, the Fed statement of account and core GL extracts should load without a custom build.
  • FBO balances by program. A BIN sponsor ties each program manager's ledger to its FBO account every day, on its own books, independently of the partner.
  • Interchange and fees as rules. Interchange netted from settlement, network fees and ATM surcharges should match as expected outcomes, not sit as breaks.
  • Dispute timing tied to Regulation E. Provisional credits and chargebacks age against their deadlines, so the open items report shows what is due this week.
  • An examiner-ready queue. Every open item needs an owner, an age from settlement date and a record of which rule version matched it.

Sponsor banks have had more supervisory attention on their partner programs since a series of 2024 enforcement actions, and card program teams increasingly pair reconciliation with regulatory change monitoring so new network and banking rules reach the people running the programs. The reconciliation side is what BankAutomation is built for. The detail is on credit union reconciliation software, ATM reconciliation software and payment reconciliation software.

Questions to put to every vendor

  • Load our Visa and Mastercard settlement reports, a Nacha file and the Fed statement of account in the demo, on our data.
  • How do you tie each program's ledger to its FBO account, and what happens when a partner file arrives late?
  • How are interchange netting and ACH return timing modeled: as rules, or as a wider tolerance?
  • Which US issuers or sponsor banks are live today, and can we speak to one?
  • Where is our data hosted, and can we see your SOC 2 report?
  • What happens to price when card volume grows 20 percent during the term?

Questions buyers ask

What are the best Kani Payments alternatives?

For a US card issuer, BIN sponsor bank or credit union card program, BankAutomation, ReconArt and Trintech ReconNET fit daily settlement against a core. For payment companies with many processors, Simetrik and SmartStream are the closest alternatives. For data heavy reconciliation across asset classes, Duco. For UK safeguarding, Kani itself remains a strong choice.

How much does Kani Payments cost?

Kani does not publish pricing, so every contract is quoted. Expect the quote to depend on transaction volume, the number of programs and data sources, and whether you add scheme reporting or safeguarding. Ask for the volume allowance, overage rate and renewal cap in writing, and compare with published pricing such as BankAutomation's plans from $1,200 a month.

Who are Kani's competitors?

Company databases list Leapfin, Ledge and Booke.AI among Kani's competitors, and Simetrik names Kani as one of its own closest rivals alongside Duco, SmartStream, AutoRek and ReconArt. In US card program deals, bank-side platforms such as BankAutomation compete when the buyer is the sponsor bank rather than the program manager.

Does Kani work in the US?

Kani named the US as an expansion market when it raised its Series A in February 2025, and its reconciliation and Visa and Mastercard reporting apply to any issuer. Its safeguarding product is built for UK rules. A US buyer should test it on its own Visa, Mastercard, Nacha and Fed files and ask for US references.

What is the best reconciliation software for a BIN sponsor bank?

A BIN sponsor needs software that reconciles network settlement, FBO balances per program and the Fed account against its own core every day, with an owner and age on every break. Bank-side platforms such as BankAutomation are built for that. Program manager tools reconcile the partner's side and do not replace the bank's own control.

Try the matcher before you ask for a quote

The resolver at the top of this page runs BankAutomation's two pass matcher on a sample USD card settlement file against core postings, with Visa, Mastercard and ATM lines. Move the tolerances and see which breaks stay open. If the queue looks like the one your team works, every plan and limit is on the pricing page.
