FloQast alternatives for banks and credit unions, 7 close and reconciliation platforms compared

floqast alternatives

The best FloQast alternative for a bank or credit union depends on where the reconciliation pain actually sits. If it is the month end close, checklists, balance sheet sign-off and flux review, BlackLine and Trintech Adra are the like for like options. If it is the daily settlement accounts, share draft, ACH, card, ATM and the Fed account, you need a bank-side daily reconciliation platform such as BankAutomation, which publishes plans from $1,200 a month, or ReconArt.

What FloQast does well at a financial institution

FloQast is close management software built for accounting teams. Its products cover the close checklist, account reconciliation, AI variance analysis and reconciliation management with transaction matching, and it markets a financial services version to banks and credit unions. It earned its following by staying close to how accountants already work, with reconciliations that tie out to the general ledger and sign-off by preparer and reviewer.

The clearest public example in banking is Credit Union of Southern California. FloQast's own case study describes a $3.9 billion credit union with an 18 person accounting and finance team on Jack Henry Symitar, running FloQast Close and AI Variance Analysis across hundreds of accounts. The results it reports are a close that went from six days to five and four to five hours a month saved on variance analysis. That is a real improvement, and it is a month end improvement.

Why banks and credit unions look for FloQast alternatives

The reason is rarely that FloQast fails at the close. It is that a bank's reconciliation load is not mostly a close problem. A credit union with 140,000 members settles debit cards, ACH and ATM activity every business day, and those settlement and clearing accounts produce breaks daily. A close tool sees them as a balance at month end. Operations needs to see them as individual items the morning after they happen, with a reason, an owner and an age.

  • The daily settlement work still lives in spreadsheets next to the close tool, because it was never the job the close tool was bought for.
  • Transaction volumes from card and ACH grow every year, and the team wants to know what matching at that volume costs on each platform.
  • Examiners ask about aged items in suspense and clearing accounts, and the evidence sits in a monthly sign-off rather than in a daily item history.
  • Renewal arrives with more modules than the team uses, and finance is asked to price the market before signing.

Match the alternative to the workload

Before comparing vendors, sort the reconciliations you run by frequency. The right tool follows from that list.

For the close-suite side, the Trintech Adra alternative guide breaks Adra down module by module, and BlackLine alternatives for banks covers the enterprise close field. If Trintech is already in your shortlist, Trintech alternatives compares its whole portfolio.

What FloQast costs, and what the alternatives cost

FloQast does not publish prices. Vendr's FloQast page shows a median annual contract of $24,481 across 312 purchases, with a range of about $10,000 to $69,000 a year, driven by entities, users, modules and term. That puts it below BlackLine's Vendr median of $40,125 and in the same bracket as ReconArt's stated credit union average of under $50,000 a year.

BankAutomation publishes its plans. Operations is $1,200 a month for 250,000 items and three sources, which covers a typical credit union running share draft, ACH and ATM settlement. Platform is $3,900 a month for 2,000,000 items, unlimited sources, SSO and maker-checker approvals, where most banks land. Full detail is on the pricing page. The honest comparison is not either or: plenty of institutions keep FloQast for the close and add a daily platform for operations, and the daily platform then feeds a clean, already reconciled balance into the month end.

When to stay on FloQast

  • Your accounting team closes in five or six days, auditors accept the sign-off evidence and the daily settlement accounts are already handled well somewhere else.
  • Most of your reconciliations are monthly GL accounts, prepaid, accruals and fixed assets, rather than high volume settlement accounts.
  • You are in a core conversion year. Do not change the close tool and the core in the same twelve months.
  • The pain is upstream of reconciliation. If the close drags because vendor invoices are coded late, fixing accounts payable automation shortens the close more than a new reconciliation vendor would.

Questions to put to every vendor

  • Show a Jack Henry, Fiserv or Corelation GL extract, a Nacha file and the Fed statement of account loading into the platform, on our files, in the demo.
  • How are ACH return timing and card interchange netting modeled: as expected outcomes with their own rules, or as a wider tolerance?
  • Does an unmatched item get an owner, an age and a classification, and can we show an examiner its full history?
  • Who changes a matching rule, who approves it, and is the rule version recorded on every match?
  • What happens to price when our card and ACH volumes grow 20 percent during the term?

The daily side of this list is what BankAutomation is built for. The credit union view is on credit union reconciliation software, the ACH detail is on ACH reconciliation software, and the month end certification view is on balance sheet reconciliation software.

Questions buyers ask

What are the best FloQast alternatives?

For month end close management, BlackLine and Trintech Adra are the closest FloQast alternatives, with Trintech Cadency at larger enterprises. For banks and credit unions whose main load is daily settlement reconciliation, BankAutomation and ReconArt fit better, because they match share draft, ACH, card, ATM and Fed accounts every day rather than at month end.

Does FloQast work for credit unions?

Yes. FloQast sells to financial institutions and publishes a case study with Credit Union of Southern California, a $3.9 billion credit union on Jack Henry Symitar that uses FloQast Close and AI Variance Analysis. The reported gains are a one day shorter close and four to five hours a month on variance analysis, which are month end benefits.

How much does FloQast cost?

FloQast quotes each customer. Vendr reports a median annual contract of $24,481 across 312 purchases, ranging from roughly $10,000 to $69,000 a year depending on users, entities, modules and term. For comparison, Vendr shows BlackLine at a median of $40,125 a year, and BankAutomation publishes plans from $1,200 a month.

Is FloQast good for bank reconciliation?

FloQast handles bank reconciliation for a company's own bank accounts well, tying statements to the general ledger at month end. A bank or credit union reconciling its own settlement and clearing accounts faces daily volume and item-level aging, which suits a daily operations platform better than a close tool.

Can you use FloQast and a daily reconciliation platform together?

Yes, and it is a common setup. The daily platform matches settlement and clearing accounts every morning and works exceptions to an owner. By month end those accounts are already reconciled, so the close tool certifies a clean balance with evidence attached instead of rebuilding the month from spreadsheets.
